ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando detectives identified a person of interest in a fatal shooting that happened last year.

Police released new information from the case Wednesday, hoping to generate new leads.

According to investigators, 26-year-old Dominique Aldridge was shot and killed on a sidewalk in front of an apartment building inside Jernigan Gardens at 1488 Mercy Drive on Aug. 30, 2020.

Police now say Aldridge left a gathering at the apartment complex that night with an unidentified teenager, headed for Altamonte Springs.

When the two stopped at a 7-Eleven along the way, police say the teen took off in Aldridge’s car.

“When the car was taken, his cell phone was in it,” Barbara Sharp with the Orlando Police Department said.

Surveillance video released by police Wednesday shows Aldridge’s convertible Mustang some time after it was stolen being followed by a Honda Civic that was also stolen.

The teen can be seen leaving the car moments before it catches fire.

Police say Aldridge was picked up by a friend in Altamonte Springs and brought back to Jernigan Gardens where he got into a confrontation with another group of men.

“At that time, he’s murdered, senselessly and intentionally,” Sharp said.

A year later, police haven’t made any arrests, but now say they want to talk to a person seen in surveillance video filling up a gas can shortly before Aldridge’s car was set on fire.

They also want to speak to the friend who picked Aldridge up in Altamonte Springs, identified as Jack Rosa, but say he’s avoiding contact with them.

“The longer Mr. Rosa is not coming forward leads me to believe there must have been something going on if he brought him back to Jernigan Gardens and within moments, Dominique is murdered,” Sharp said.

Detectives are asking residents to come forward with any information that could help get justice for Aldridge and his grieving family.
