Orlando hosts international barbershop quartet convention

Thousands of the world's most talented singing-foursomes are performing at the 80th Barbershop Harmony Society Competition at the Orange County Convention Center this week.

The annual event unites top barbershop ensembles from 17 North American districts and quartets from around the world for to compete for the gold.

Spokesman Brian Lynch says, however, it’s less about the competition and more “for the moment of blending your voice with someone else. It connects hearts and it connects souls.”

News 96.5 WDBO's Gene Wexler spoke with Pioneer district champions, Frontier, from Michigan.

“We have competitors here from Sweden, New Zealand, Australia,  from Great Britain. So it’s truly an international competition,” said Frontier baritone Cody Terrance Harrell.

The four-day convention runs through Saturday in the West Concourse. Day passes for the International Chorus Finals and the Saturday Night Spectacular and Quartet Finals are available to the public on their website.
