Suspects in Orlando's first 2016 homicide

Two men were arrested Saturday for their alleged involvement Orlando’s first homicide of the year, the Orlando Police Department said.

Randell Burton, 20, and Dante Thomas, 19, were charged in the robbery and shooting death of Yonel Meus, 36, Orlando police Sgt. Wanda Ford said.

The incident happened early Friday outside a 7-Eleven at Silver Star Road and Dardanelle Drive.

Burton was angry he had been kicked out of a downtown nightclub for fighting, Ford said.

“The suspects were trying to back their car into a spot at the store and they almost hit the victim,” Ford said. “The victim slapped the suspects’ car to alert them and this enraged the suspects.”

As Meus walked away from the gas station, the men followed Meus in their car before beating him up, Ford said.

Burton then pulled out a gun and shot Meus before Thomas drove them away, investigators said.

Meus was brought to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he died.

Burton and Thomas were both charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery.
