Polo millionaire Goodman found guilty of DUI manslaughter

A six member jury, selected in Tampa has convicted south Florida polo mogul John Goodman of DUI manslaughter with failure to render aid in the 2010 crash that killed UCF student Patrick WIlson.

The second jury in three years to hear the case reached its decision after four hours of deliberation, starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Chief Circuit Judge Jeffrey Colbath ordered 51 year old Goodman be taken into custody until he is sentenced.

Wilsons parents, Lili and William were in court throughout the entire three-week trial.

A Palm Beach County jury returned an identical verdict in March of 2012, but that verdict was thrown out because of juror misconduct.

Both juries asked to hear the 911 call Goodman made after he left Wilson to drown in a Wellington canal. Goodman’s Bentley convertible crashed into Wilson’s Hyundai Sonata at about 1 a.m. on Feb. 12, 2010, in Wellington.

Goodman had been drinking at a nearby bar and had a .177 blood-alcohol content three hours after the crash.

Goodman is the founder of the Wellington Polo Club.
