SANFORD, Fla. — The President attracted a sizable crowd to the Orlando Sanford International Airport for a rally Monday evening; thousands eyed the sky as Air Force One touched down right in front of them before dusk.
“I feel so powerful,” President Trump said, hitting the stage with an hour-long speech.
Ahead of President Trump’s remarks, John Graham says he was astonished by the crowds while walking with them to the main stage:
“I love Trump and I have never been to one of his rallies, so it’s a great opportunity to hear him speak," Graham said.
“It feels amazing just seeing all of his supporters out here, and that there is still hope for America and not everyone has turned.”
For fellow newcomer Walter Maser, the huge crowd was also a key takeaway:
“It’s great, it’s like a circus [...] have you ever seen so many smiles?” Mr. Maser said.
Walter’s wife Brenda had her priorities in order, and when asked what she wanted to hear:
“Him, him and his message and all the fans and support,” Mrs. Maser said.
The rally had a star-studded lineup of high-profile Republicans as guest speakers; Gov. Ron DeSantis, Rep. Matt Gaetz, and Rep. Michael Waltz were all there, encouraging those present to head to the polls and vote red.
Gov. DeSantis opened with remarks about Judge Amy Coney Barrett, criticizing the opposition as Senate Republicans push her closer to the U.S. Supreme Court.
In general, the normally quiet and reserved DeSantis that Floridians have come to know in the age of the daily COVID-19 briefing was nowhere to be found.
That night, he was on the attack, targeting Democrats, former VP Joe Biden, COVID-19 shutdowns, protests, and the Media:
“They think that they are the guardians of the democracy, they think that they’re firefighters, they think they’re searching for truth,” DeSantis said.
With close to three weeks until the November election, Monday night’s rally was the latest and loudest jab from Republicans at Biden’s chances in the battleground state of Florida.
The former VP is slated to campaign in Broward County Tuesday afternoon -- Biden has stops scheduled in Pembroke Pines and Miramar to discuss issues related to seniors and voter mobilization respectively, according to the Biden campaign.
