Robert E. Lee High School sign vandalized in Jacksonville

The marquee in front of Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville was vandalized on Thursday.

According to WOKV News, some of the letters were removed from the sign, and the word "racist" was spray-painted on it.  The Duval County School District removed the remaining letters temporarily for repairs.

A woman told police she saw two young men around the sign Saturday night, with one appeared to act as lookout while the other was doing something to sign, according to WOKV.  When police arrived, the only letters remaining ont he sign were “Rob” on one side and “Rob E.” on the other.

A church that meets at the school cleaned off spray paint from the sign.

This past February, the Orange County School Board voted nearly unanimously to change the name of Robert E. Lee Middle School to College Park Middle.
