Jacksonville, Fla. — A firefighter from Sanford is dead after two boats crashed during the Jacksonville Grand Prix of the Sea on the St. Johns River Saturday afternoon.
The Sanford Fire Department confirms on Facebook that Lt. Mike Saber died in the crash. They say he raced on the Rapid Building Solutions powerboat.
One of the boats flipped during the collision.
Four other people were injured and had to be taken to the hospital. As a result, the remaining races of the day were canceled.
