School bus driver drops kindergartner at Waffle House

Instead of being dropped off at his after-school child care center, a Fort Myers five year old boy was dropped off at a Waffle House restaurant.

The child then walked several blocks on busy highway US-41 to a gas station.

The boys mother, Lela Federick said in a Facebook post, her five-year-old son was supposed to ride the bus from school to daycare, but he never made it there.

According to the police report, Federick said her son was dropped off at Waffle House, which means he would have walked several blocks along busy US-41 to get to the gas station where he was later found by concerned woman.

Former school bus driver Theresa Short told NBC 2 in Fort Myers, she can't imagine what was going through the school bus driver's head at the time.

"I just don't think there was any excuse whatsoever for him to be left here."

The Lee County School District said the driver is no longer employed by the district.
