Spectacular avalanches are often fast-moving, highly destructive forces of snow and nature.
But an avalanche in Saxon, Switzerland last week proved to be a slow-moving, highly destructive force of snow and nature.

The Telegraph UK reports that the avalanche was deliberately triggered.
The president of municipality of Saxon, Léo Farquet, said: "It's an avalanche was triggered deliberately to secure the road, we do it every snowfall."
It is a procedure done to minimise the risk of uncontrolled avalanches taking place, which puts lives and properties at risk.
The road has since been secured and has been cleared of snow.
