The Lake County School bus saga continued Monday, but this time the meeting ended on a positive note. After a review of what had been determined "dangerous walkways" the district has agreed to bus some 360 students.
The district ended busing for students who live within two miles of a school. Then Parents complained their children had to walk along dangerous roadways and areas. After last weeks meeting, the school board defined dangerous walkways as six lane roadways or 55 mile per hour zones without a crosswalk.
The district spent the past week studying how many students would be eligible for busing under those guidelines, and how much it would cost them.
They found several schools where students would qualify under those guidelines and found that they could bus them without adding any new bus routes.
Board members say some parents will be unhappy. For example at Eustis and Clermont Elementary, students cross busy roads like State Road 50, but it's not six lanes there.
The school district is still considering whether students in non-dangerous areas will have to pay for busing.
