Tarpon Springs police have released the name of the suspect accused of gunning down Tarpon Springs police officer Charles "Charlie K" Kondek.
Kondek was shot and killed after a confrontation over loud noise with 23-year-old Marco Antonio Parilla Jr. early Sunday morning.
Parilla is said to be a transient.
The shooting happened around 3 a.m. outside the Villa Plumosa condominiums, 199 Grand Boulevard, where police were originally called out for a noise complaint.
Residents reported the suspect banging on doors.
Officer Kondek was the first officer to arrive on the scene, he was shot and wounded when he stepped out of his car.
Parilla crashed his car into a pole at the intersection of Athens and Cross Street and was taken in to custody.
Tarpon Springs Fire Rescue treated Kondek on the scene and transported him to Floida Hospital Pinellas North where he died from his injuries.
Officer Kondek was 45-years-old and was a father of five.
He served with the Tarpon Springs police department for 17 years.
Kondek also served with the NYPD for 5 years before moving to Florida.
He is originally from the New York area and served with the NYPD before moving to Florida, according to a Tarpon Springs Police news release.
Kondek's wife works for the Pasco County Clerk of Courts and his father is a retired NYPD officer.
Parilla remains in the Pinellas county jail.
