Three die in helicopter crash near Melbourne Intl Airport

Three people were killed in a helicopter crash in Palm Bay Tuesday near Osmosis Drive, police said.

Brevard County Fire Rescue hazmat responded to the scene near Bayside High School, along with the Palm Bay Fire Department.

It happened just before 2:00 p.m., about ten miles southwest of the Melbourne International Airport.

Police said the older model, military-style helicopter was on the ground and fully engulfed in flames when rescuers arrived, acording to the Associated Press.

The blaze was contained within ten minutes.   The helicopter operated out of the Melbourne Airport.

Witnesses reported seeing it flying low before the crash.

So far, no word on a cause for the deadly accident.

The victims' names have not been released. Late information indicated the three were the pilot, a training pilot and a crew member.
