Tropical Storm Danny has formed in the Atlantic, Chief Meteorologist Tom Terry said Tuesday afternoon.
The storm is well out into the Atlantic, almost 3,000 miles to the east southeast of central Florida, about 1,595 miles east of the Windward Islands and moving to the west at 12 mph.
The storm's maximum sustained winds are 40 mph.
The storm currently poses no threat to land; there are no watches or warnings in effects.
Forecasters with the hurricane center say the storm is likely to strengthen to a hurricane by Thursday. This would be the first hurricane of the 2015 Atlantic Tropical Season with continued gradual strengthening over the next two days.
