The University of Central Florida will not make its downtown campus pitch to the Board of Governors in January after all.
During a board meeting Thursday morning, UCF trustees approved a memorandum of understanding with Gov. Rick Scott regarding details of the proposed campus.
The memorandum addressed several aspects of the project, including student enrollment, classes that would be offered and how it would provide for workforce needs.
It also detailed UCF’s request for $20 million in funding from the state to build the campus.
UCF has raised about $8 million in private donations for its planned downtown Orlando campus. Trustees believe that they could have $12 million in donations within a few weeks, but would need about $12 million more to meet the goal of opening in the fall of 2018. The university is contributing $20 million from its own resources.
The downtown campus would serve 7,700 UCF and Valencia College students. CFE Federal Credit Union and the Orlando Magic have both pledged $1.5 million for the project.
UCF is the nation's second-largest university, with more than 60,000 students. Its main campus is located on the east side of metro Orlando.
