Exxon Mobil is working to clean up thousands of barrels of oil that spilled over the weekend after a pipeline burst near Mayflower, Arkansas.

The leak forced the shutdown of the Pegasus pipeline, which carries Canadian oil from Pakota, Illinois, to Gulf Coast refineries in Texas.

The spilled oil is Canadian Wabasca Heavy crude diluted with lighter liquids to allow it to flow through a pipeline.

The spill comes as American regulators consider whether to permit the controversial Keystone XL pipeline, which would carry crude all the way from Canada to the Gulf.
