Video shows firefighters working to revive cat after house fire

A cat in Iowa just used up 8 of her 9 lives after being trapped in a house fire. But thanks to some local firefighters, Cleo is alive and kicking.

According to WHO TV 13, a fire broke out at a home in Ames and Cleo was trapped in the basement. When rescuers found her, she wasn't breathing.

A Facebook video posted by the Ames Fire Department shows the firefighters working for 30 minutes to save the kitty using a special pet revival mask.  Cleo finally comes around and starts meowing. She's now recovering at Iowa State University's Veterinary Medicine facility.

"She couldn't stand or walk (and) wasn't really aware of what was going on," said April Blong, of the ISU College of Veterinary Medicine.

Cleo is still being treated for respiratory issues but should be able to go home with her family in a few days. Lt. Jordan Damhof says she's one lucky cat.

"Their pets become part of their family, and so it's one of the most satisfying parts of our job is when we can go to a scene and try to make the scene better."
