Crystal River, Fla. — A sea cow made the day for Mandy Egner.
While strict federal and state laws prohibit people from approaching manatees, there is not a law against manatees reaching out to touch you.
That’s exactly what one sea cow did Friday as Egner snorkeled in Crystal River with her cousin who was visiting from Ohio.
The two went swimming in Kings Bay where the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission monitor swimmers.
The young manatee swam right up to Egner and gave her what she calls ‘a big ol’ sea cow hug.’
That’s one lucky lady!
Keep in mind that anyone convicted of violating Florida law protecting manatees faces a fine up to $500 and prison time.
