Olympia High School will be closing for two weeks due to six confirmed COVID-19 cases and one pending case.
Orange County Public Schools said the closure is for Olympia High School only. The school will remain closed from Sept. 8 to Sept. 18, and students will return to school Sept. 21.
Students will pivot to LaunchEd@Home, the district’s virtual learning program.The school district said there will be no athletic events, extracurricular or co-curricular events. Those activities will resume Sept. 21.
According to the school district, 156 quarantine letters were issued at Olympia High School.
The school will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, school officials said.
According to Florida Department of Health, the cases are a result of community spread and not spread at the school.The health department will also offer free drive-thru COVID-19 testing in the parking lot of Olympia High School through a mobile testing unit.
Due to the closure, breakfast and lunch will be available for pickup at Chain of Lakes Middle School beginning Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. and will continue through Sept. 18, officials said.
