SpaceX, others, awarded millions by NASA for support technology

SpaceX chief Elon Musk and big decision-makers at NASA might not always see eye-to-eye, but when it comes to forwarding science in space, they both seem to agree cooperation is key.

That became extremely apparent when NASA awarded the Hawthorne, California based company $3 million to collaborate with NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

There, they’ll work together to develop and test coupler prototypes — or nozzles — for refueling spacecraft such as SpaceX's Starship spacecraft.

In total, NASA awarded $43 million to 14 American companies that are working on technologies to support its Artemis lunar exploration program as well as eventually transport people to Mars.

This all is part of their 'Tipping Point' program, "to help bring the technologies to market and ready them for use by NASA."
