WASHINGTON — Marianne Williamson, a best-selling author and spiritual adviser, formally announced her candidacy for president on Saturday.
Williamson, 70, who has written 14 books, will run as a Democrat and is the first party member to formally challenge incumbent Joe Biden, according to WJLA-TV.
Williamson also launched a bid for the White House in 2020, The Associated Press reported.
“I, as of today, am a candidate for the office of president of the United States,” Williamson said in a campaign kickoff at Union Station in Washington, D.C.
Williamson, who was once a spiritual adviser to Oprah Winfrey, introduced her campaign with the slogans “A New Beginning” and “Disrupt the System,” according to the AP.
She plans to campaign in early voting states in the 2024 primaries, including New Hampshire, the news organization reported.
