WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden hit a significant milestone by becoming the first president to celebrate his 80th birthday while in office.

Biden, born on Nov. 20, 1942, celebrated his birthday at brunch with his extended family, who were at the White House following the wedding of his eldest granddaughter one day earlier.

In 2021, Biden was sworn in as the oldest president in the nation’s history, beating Ronald Reagan. His milestone birthday is at a crossroads as he and his family face a decision on whether he should run for reelection. He’d be 86 at the end of a potential second term, according to The Associated Press.

According to The New York Times, he has said that he will announce any formal plans to run early next year.

Former President Donald Trump, four years younger than Biden, announced his intent to run for the Republican presidential nomination last week.

The AP reported that Trump is entering the race for the 2024 election at a time of “political vulnerability.” He hoped to have launched it following GOP midterm victories along with the candidates he had backed, but many of those candidates lost their campaigns.
