Woman sentenced to life in prison for the murder of her 17-year-old daughter

JACKSON, Miss. — A Mississippi woman was convicted of capital murder and child abuse on Friday, the Hinds County District Attorney said in a statement on Facebook.

LaTiffany Chambers was convicted of murdering her 17-year-old daughter and child abuse for her other two children, a 14-year-old son and a 12-year-old daughter.

Jackson Police Department officers were called out to Lower Drive in Jackson on Oct. 31, 2020, for an irresponsible person, according to WLBT. When officers arrived, Lamonica Tucker, 17, was found unresponsive and had “obvious signs” of abuse. She was taken to the hospital, where she died.

Chambers’ other children were both examined by investigators and also had signs of “prolonged physical abuse,” according to the news outlet.

Chambers was arrested also with the stepfather, Danny Dabbs. According to WLBT, Dabbs was also charged with capital murder in the death of Tucker and child abuse for the two other children.

Chambers has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the capital murder charge, the district attorney said. Chambers has also been sentenced to 10 years for each child abuse count, totaling 20 years.
