Altamonte Springs, Fla. — Drivers who use the State Road 436 bridge over I-4 will soon be looking at each other as they drive over the interstate.
The biggest traffic shift yet for the bridge will happen Saturday morning - but will impact drivers as early as late tonight.
Crews will close down the on and off-ramps at State Road 436 at 10 pm Friday to make the transformation.
Late-night drivers should plan to use the Maitland Boulevard exit or State Road 434.
Once the ramps re-open Saturday at 8 am drivers will find themselves on the new bridge decks north and south of the old lanes, see the video below.
The new traffic patterns will be in place for about a year while the old bridge is destroyed.
An estimated 68,000 cars cross over the bridge each day, and drivers are urged to use caution as they adjust to the changes.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is using a new short wave radio station to assist drivers.
You can tune to 1630 AM to get updates on traffic shifts you drive through the corridor.
Also, plan to see extra law enforcement patrolling the interchange until Tuesday morning.
