A robotic dog has joined New York City’s police force! The mechanical canine, named Digidog, was displayed at a Times Square press conference on Tuesday.

Some complained that the Digidog is too dystopian, but Mayor Eric Adams gave the pup the go-ahead. The 70-pound, remote-controlled Digidog will be deployed in high-risk situations, like hostage situations.

“Instead of sending police in there, you send Digidog in there,” Adams said. “So these are smart ways of using good technologies.”

An Autonomous Security Robot will also be deployed inside the subway station starting this summer.
